Into The Twilight Zone During Euro 2024
EURO 2024 is going on while I was working remotely on the West Coast. I made illustrations about my experiences.

The first game was a bit too early for me with the 9 hour difference, but I was able to see the last 15 minutes of the Netherlands' 2-1 victory over Poland.
Every walk in Los Angeles feels like a beautiful experience, especially with the plants and trees that make it seem like you're strolling through a gigantic terrarium. Occasionally, I think about the European Championship, but LA is so distant, different, and intriguing that it keeps me quite distracted.
While sipping coffee in the morning, the Netherlands advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Championship. I love following the tournament, but it also feels a bit surreal, like being in the Twilight Zone.
I'm a fan of Memphis. While the Netherlands’ national slogan is “act normal, that’s already crazy enough,” Memphis boldly wears a headband with “who cares,” which reminds me of Russell Westbrook’s "why not?". In LA, such expression would go unnoticed or be appreciated as part of individual style, with no one thinking twice about it.
Besides this, I think Memphis is a great player. Not everything works out the way he imagines, but when it does, it’s pretty magical. He takes risks, and that’s exactly what makes watching him and the Dutch team so exciting. The emotion when beautiful intentions either work brilliantly or utterly fail is what makes soccer such an amazing sport to watch. One highlight for me was his missed free kick that went under the Romanian wall—a thrilling near miss.
The Netherlands will play Turkey in a few hours. Let’s go, Memphis! Let’s go, Netherlands!

While the Netherlands made it to the semis and plays England, San Francisco brought its own soccer challenges.
After watching the semifinal between the Netherlands and England, I noticed something interesting. My subjectivity before, during, and after the game showed an unexpected parallel with the unique structure of my favorite building in San Francisco, the Transamerica Pyramid.
