URBAN DESIGN

Station Driebergen - Zeist
Station Driebergen-Zeist is an urban design plan for the redevelopment of a major railway station. The station is situated between two small towns and lacks density and exposure. Expansion of the railway station and construction of a new bus terminal encourage the use of public transportation in the area. While a mixed-use development plan encourages density around the station, and the use of bicycles.

The Driebergen-Zeist train station is being completely renovated. The expansion of two to four tracks, a new train station and the expansion of the bus station will create a new public transportation hub. This also creates opportunities for transforming the surrounding area and improve the connections with the nearby National Park "Utrechtse Heuvelrug".
For a constructive conversation about the future of the station and surroundings with residents, local and regional organizations and Prorail (agency responsible for the national railway network), three development models were created. This lead to a final design that included plans for urban planning and public space designs for this complex public transportation hub.
