King's Day 2025
The Consulate General of the Netherlands celebrated King's Day on April 24, 2025. They asked me to create an artwork inspired by the theme 'cycling'.
My intention was to create an artwork that subtly links the Netherlands, Chicago, and cycling. Reflection captures a familiar scene for Chicagoans: the south branch of the Chicago River, the St. Charles Air Line Bridge, and the Sears Tower rising above the skyline as seen from Ping Tom Park. The orange sky is echoed in the cyclist’s shirt, as they pause to take in the view.
The event at the Arts Club of Chicago celebrated Dutch culture and traditions in honor of King Willem-Alexander’s birthday. Organized by the Consulate General of the Netherlands, the Dutch Club of Chicago, and the Dutch American Chamber of Commerce, it included a raffle featuring prizes such as KLM flights to Amsterdam, a Gazelle bike—and this artwork.
